Nara International Film Festival International Competition Q&A Session with Ruth

“Zahori” Director: Marí Alessandrini

Sometimes I think movies are like windows. And what you can see from there is rich.

And it was Patagonia, South America.

Apparently, the shooting range was 300km, and you can feel the wind blowing in the wilderness and the smell of the soil from the screen.

The human being of focus lives within it. Slowly depicting the simple, essential aspects of human beings.

“I will die alone.” This is an inevitable gift given to everyone. How you perceive it is up to you.

Synopsis:

A gray wind blows across the Patagonian steps. Thirteen-year-old Mora hopes to become a gaucho (a cowboy who herds cows and sheep). Dissatisfied with her school, Mora complains to her parents, but they are too stressed out as reality cannot catch up with her ideal life of self-sufficiency. Mora ventures deep into the grasslands to rescue Nasareno, an old Mapuche man who has lost his horse, Zahori.
